Parents in Islam

فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللٌّهِ (ص): فَقِرَّ مَعَ وَالِدَيْكَ فَوَ الَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَأَُنْسُهُمَا بِكَ يَوْماً وَ لَيْلَةً خَيْرٌ مِنْ جِهَادِ سَنَةٍ.
[A person once approached the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) and said: “I have an old father and mother, who due to their attachment towards me, are not keen for me to go to Jihad.”]
[Hearing this], the Noble Prophet (peace be upon him and his family) said: “(If such is the case then) Stay with your parents for, by the One in whose control lies my soul, their attachment of one day and one night to you is better than one year of Jihad.”
قَالَ رَسُولُ اللٌّهِ (ص): مَنْ أَصبَحَ مُطِيعاً لِلٌّهِ فِي الْواَلِدَينِ أَصبَحَ لَهُ بَابَانِ مَفْتُوحَانِ مِنَ الْجَنَّةِ وَ إِنْ كَانَ وَاحِداً فَوَاحِداً.
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) said: “One, who follows the orders of Allah with regards to obeying parents, shall have two doors of Paradise opened up for him. And if there happens to be only one parent, one door of Paradise shall open up for him.”

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللٌّهِ (ص): بِرُّوا آبَاءَكُمْ يَـبِرُّكُمْ أَبْنَاءُكُمْ. عِفُّوا عَنْ نِسَاءِ النٌّاسِ تُعَفُّ نِسَاءُكُمْ.
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) has said: “Be good towards your parents and your children will be good towards you. (And) Look upon the womenfolk of others with purity (in conduct and intention) and your womenfolk will be looked upon with purity.”

The word “the sea” (al-bahr) is used 32 times in the Quran. The word “al-bahr” is used both for sea and other waters like lakes and rivers. The word “al-berr” (the land) is used 12 times in the Quran. The surface of the world is 510 million square kilometers. Approximately 360 million kilometers are made up of waters, like seas, lakes, etc. In addition, 15 million kilometers are ice-sheets; if we exclude these ice-sheets from the rest, approximately 135 million square kilometers are land. The ratio of the words “al-bahr” (the land) and “al-berr” (the sea) in the Quran is 12/32 = 0.375. The ratio of the land and the sea in the world is 135 mill sq. km / 360 million sq. km=0.375. So, there is a very interesting harmony between the usages of these words in the Quran and the existing phenomena in the world. He is the One who moves you across the land and the sea. Islam views life as a compact whole and does not divide it into many separate and conflicting parts. The economic aspect is one of the most important parts of our life, while not being the whole of it. The Islamic system is balanced and places everything in its right place. ZAKAT (ALMS GIVING) – THE PURITY AND ETERNITY!

When it comes to  Zakat , many a time people discuss only about items, rates and the difference of opinions among scholars about these. But, they tend to ignore the very important side- that is establishing a  Zakat  system in place.  Many times, Qur’an discusses  Zakat  right after mentioning Salah.
